Wednesday, I did indeed leave the oxygen bottle behind when I went to get my pedicure, and I was Perfectly Fine — except when the pedicurist got a little overenthusiastic and filed some skin off the tip of my second toe when she was filing that nail. Of course, I bled longer than she was expecting me to as I am on clopidogrel because of my stents. No biggie.
Thursday, I adulted for a whole hour and paid bills. Luckily, I had enough left over to order a new keyboard. I truly love this keyboard. It’s a gamer keyboard with very light touch and this will be the third one I’ve gotten in 10 years. The one I have now is failing. I’ve worn the little nub off the “J” key that tells your right index finger you’re on the home keys (very annoying to type half a sentence with one hand off the home keys . . .), and I have nearly worn the other one off the “F” key. The “m” and “n” keys are persnickety. Half the time they don’t type their respective letters unless I hit them square on the key. The “b” key is beginning to get that way too. The backspace key is downright recalcitrant. These little vagarities have gotten to the point where they’re really annoying. I’ve had this keyboard for over 5 years, and it’s time to get a new one. (It only took me four years to wear out the first one, but I was still working then. I don’t type nearly as much now that I’m retired as I did then.) My mouse is moribund as well, but it will have to do until next month.
Friday, instead of rolling over and going back to sleep after I had taken my morning meds like I wanted to do, I stayed up and knitted until noon thinking that my mom was coming by after her doctor’s appointment to bring a prescription she picked up for me. (I won’t need it until Monday.) But she didn’t show. So, I drank my lunch (Ensure High Protein) and went back to bed. Woke up several times, rolled over and went back to sleep. Finally decided I was done sleeping at 9 p.m.
There was method to my madness, however. I had some raw whole potatoes in the fridge that I had planned to bake, and I deliberately waited until after 10 p.m., in the coolth of the evening, to hot up the oven and bake the little darlings in my favorite way: Washed and scrubbed well with a brush, dried, slathered in olive oil and baked at 360° for an hour. (The olive oil makes the skins soft.)
When I put the taters in the oven, I also put a load of sheets and towels in the washer. I took the timer back to my computer to read the blogs and webcomics I follow. By the time the taters were done, the washer was done and after I took the taters out of the oven, I switched the wash over to the dryer (another thing best done in the coolth of the night, what with our daytime temps routinely in the high 90’sF/35C+).
I glooked up half of a baked potato with margarine; steamed cauliflower, carrots and broccoli; chopped black olives; a chopped green onion; and sprinkle cheese; and zotted it in the microwave. I then proceeded to inhale it. Completely delicious, and now completely gone, skin and all. Nums.
I’ve got a load of clothes in the dryer now, and I need to cook a package of elbow macaroni and make a casserole with a couple of cans of Wolf Brand Chili, some chopped onions, macaroni, and whatnot. I might make some tuna salad with macaroni later on next week. (Cooked pasta will keep in the fridge — if it lasts that long. I have been known to eat it straight with just a drizzle of olive oil or a pat of margarine and zotted in the microwave. . .) I’ll wait until tomorrow night to cook it as it is sneaking up on 5 a.m. and using the oven and running two loads of clothes through the dryer has put quite a lot of heat into the house already.
Oh, and did I mention, I haven’t been wearing that stupid nose hose since I got up at 9 p.m., and I’ve been doing quite well what with schlepping baskets of bed linens, towels and clothes to the utility room, etc.
In the knitting news, I’ve been working on a second Cobblestone Lace shawl in Caron Simply Soft Yarn in Soft Blue. I didn’t like how the decreases were looking on the denim blue version so I tweaked the pattern. Once it’s completed, I’ll be giving the denim blue version away, and this light blue version is going to be for me.
Ditto for the Cable Edged Shawl in the “glacier bay” color (at right) once it’s finished. I’ve taken that pattern and reworked it as well with a different lace that has an edge that will lay flat.
I’ve got the new one in “Ocean” blue in the bowl on my computer table and have been working on it while I watch videos on the YouTube video channels I follow. It’s a good deal farther along now than it was in the picture taken the 17th. Onward and upward!
