I had another of those “story” dreams I have occasionally, where the dream has a plot, and plays out like a movie in my head:

A woman and her 10-year old son and 7-year old daughter are the only survivors of a shipwreck on the coast of a country where women have no rights whatsoever.  In this country, women are bought and sold like cattle and it is against the law to teach them to read or write.  The country is an ultraconservative religious patriarchy that is scientifically and culturally very backward.  The woman and her children come from a country where the sexes have equal rights and move freely throughout the society.  It is a meritocracy and women can fill any role in society for which they qualify, including governmental.  Scientific inquiry is encouraged and the society is very enlightened and advanced.  The woman is a brilliant mathematician and a university professor.  There are no diplomatic relations between their country and the country where they have been shipwrecked.  There is no way they can get word out of their survival and no hope that they will be rescued or that they can escape back to their own country as the border is very well patrolled and no one is allowed to travel into or out of the country.  They are being hidden by and aided by a sympathetic man and his wife and daughter while they try to figure out what they are going to do and how they are going to survive in this society that is so antithetical to the one they come from.  The son reacts with increasing horror as they discover more and more about the sort of society his bright, brilliant, beautiful and beloved little sister is going to have to survive in.  Had they remained in their own country, her talents would have bloomed, and she could have been anything she wanted to be.  After much soul searching, he smothers her in her sleep.

What a dream to wake up out of!
